On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold planned to set off a homemade pipe bomb in their school, Columbine High School, so they could shoot the students as they fled the school. When their bomb failed, they decided instead to hold the victims hostage and kill whoever they wanted at random, sending a panic through out the school. The boys picked the day April 20th for their massacre because it was Adolph Hitler's birthday who was said to be one of their idols. They killed 13 people in the attack and injured many others. They did not receive punishment for their actions because they committed suicide before the police were about to infiltrate the school.
